The Master of Science (MSc) in Global Health at Maastricht University is an intensive, one-year full-time program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to address complex global health challenges. The program takes an interdisciplinary approach, integrating perspectives from public health, epidemiology, economics, social sciences, ethics, and policy to understand the determinants of health and disease on a global scale. It focuses on critical analysis of global health issues, from infectious diseases and non-communicable diseases to health system strengthening and health equity.

Students will delve into the socio-economic, political, and environmental factors influencing health outcomes worldwide, and learn to develop and evaluate evidence-based interventions and policies. Curriculum

The 60 ECTS curriculum is structured into six blocks, each focusing on key aspects of global health:

  • Block 1: Global Health: Challenges and Determinants - Introduction to the main issues and underlying factors shaping global health.
  • Block 2: Health Systems and Policy - Examination of different health systems, governance, and policy-making in a global context.
  • Block 3: Research Methods in Global Health - Training in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies relevant to global health studies.
  • Block 4: Global Health Economics and Financing - Understanding the economic principles and financing mechanisms in global health.
  • Block 5: Elective - Students can choose an elective, which may include an internship, advanced research methods, or a specialised topic.
  • Block 6: Master's Thesis - Individual research project culminating in a written thesis on a global health topic.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A Bachelor's degree from a recognised university in a field relevant to Global Health (e.g., health sciences, medicine, social sciences, economics, biology, psychology, law). The Admissions Office assesses the relevance of the degree.
  • Demonstrated academic excellence, typically with a minimum GPA equivalent to a 7/10 in the Dutch grading system.
  • Proficiency in English, evidenced by:
    • TOEFL iBT: minimum 90 (with minimum 20 on each section)
    • IELTS Academic: minimum 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 on each section)
    • Cambridge English Scale: C1 Advanced (180 overall, 170 per skill) or C2 Proficiency (180 overall, 170 per skill)
  • A compelling motivation letter outlining interest in the program and career aspirations.
  • A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV).

  2. Complete Application in MyUM: After applying via Studielink, you will receive an email with login details for MyUM, Maastricht University's application portal. Complete your application here.
  3. Upload Required Documents: Submit all necessary documents, including academic transcripts, degree certificates, proof of English proficiency, motivation letter, and CV, through the MyUM portal.
  4. Pay Application Fee: A non-refundable application fee of €100 is generally required for all applicants.
  5. Admission Decision: The Admissions Office will review your application and documents. You will be notified of the admission decision via MyUM.
  6. Enrolment: Upon admission, follow the instructions to complete your enrolment at Maastricht University.
